Opulent – " having or indicating wealth or abundance"

The Collins English Dictionary

A ROSE IS THE EPITOME OF PERFECTION IN NATURE

- hence the metaphor of the ROSE as the basis for this series on-

HOW TO CREATE A SUCCESSFUL LIFE

BY DEVELOPING GOOD SELF-ESTEEM.

You have everything within yourself that you need to unfold into a happy, successful, complete, beautiful human being, living to the potential with which you have been programmed -  just like the ROSE.

The only things that hold you back are your beliefs and feelings about yourself , known as your SELF IMAGE. Your level of self image determines your self esteem.

Good self esteem is the very cornerstone of life. Your level of SELF LOVE and SELF ACCEPTANCE affects everything that you do….and it dictates what you do. Also, what you do indicates to others how you feel about yourself.

In this series, the ROSE, we will look at ways in which you can build self esteem to develop the CONFIDENCE you need to produce the kind of life you want and were meant to have.

Self Esteem

SELF ESTEEM is all about what you BELIEVE to be true about yourself.

What is Good Self Esteem?

THE BELIEF THAT WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU ARE IS ENOUGH.

Here are some practical ways that you can raise your self esteem and move forward in your life to be the SUCCESSFUL, BEAUTIFUL PERSON you were meant to be!

DEAL WITH THE PAST- We are all products of the things that have happened to us. Our beliefs about ourselves or our SELF CONCEPT is directly related to our past experiences, to our interpretations of those things that have happened to us and to the things that have been said to us.

COMPLETE AND RESOLVE NEGATIVE PAST EXPERIENCES- Negative experiences almost always get in the way of POSITIVE FORWARD MOVEMENT.

FINISH THINGS NOT COMPLETED -These use up a lot of emotional and psychological ENERGY. Once something is completed  it frees up our mental hard drive so we have space and energy for the PRESENT. The past can be filled with - accumulated things not used, projects not completed, incomplete or broken agreements or conflicts not resolved.

(Remember how great it feels to complete something you have been putting off? Remember how light you feel?)

IT’S A NEW YEAR, A NEW MILLENNIUM – WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

THIS IS A PERFECT TIME FOR A FRESH START

Physical Things To Do To Free Up Your Mental Hard Drive

MAKE A "To Do" LIST – one for personal, one for household and one for business. Writing things down makes more of a commitment. Do one from each list each day. Cross it off ceremoniously and with great flare when done! January 2000 is a perfect time to start using a daytimer or planner.

BALANCE THE CHECK BOOK - organize all banking . Get on top of your finances. Feeling in control of your money is very freeing.

SET UP A FILING SYSTEM - tax receipts, household bills paid and to be paid, insurance, wills  etc. Use the ONLY READ and HANDLE IT ONCE SYSTEM - that way it is dealt with and you don’t keep chasing it around on your desk . FILE AWAY EVERYTHING THAT IS COMPLETED. An organized desk frees you up for creativity!

CLEAN YOUR CLOSET – if it hasn’t been worn in 2 years give it away. If you add something new, take something out. Existing things get creased and it is exhausting sorting through a lot of junk just to get dressed!

GIVE UP THE POVERTY CONSCIOUSNESS – "Maybe someday I’ll need it". If you haven’t used it in 2 years, you can get along without it. There are people who would be thrilled to have it. Be generous! You’ll feel good!

BROKEN THINGS AT HOME OR WORK - throw it out or fix it. Every time you pass by it takes your energy thinking you should do something about it or being annoyed at someone else because that person has not done it! Doing it makes you feel competent, which boosts your self esteem.

CLEAN OUT YOUR AUTOMOBILE – going through some people’s cars is a great way to tell what they have been doing for the last year- you just sift through the layers! Clean out yours. It’s healthier and it also might prevent an accident..

SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY – all that stuff takes up a lot of mental energy to deal with or worry about. REMEMBER THE 20/80 RULE. 20% of things are used 80% of the time. There is something very freeing about eliminating the excess.

FINISH OFF THOSE PROJECTS – put up the rest of that wallpaper, finish the painting, complete the half-done hobby or hire someone to do it. Things not completed tie up energy. Completing things we start is very important to building self esteem.

FIX BROKEN PROMISES AND AGREEMENTS – these are incompletions that tie up energy. Follow through on your promises or acknowledge your fault and fix it (apologize, recommit or agree to leave it). Broken promises, especially to yourself, cause you to lose confidence in yourself.

I’VE HANDLED THE PAST.

NOW I CAN GET ON WITH THE PRESENT.

Next time we will discuss handling the NEGATIVE PAST – how to deal with CONFLICTS NOT RESOLVED and how to move on.
