Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapies

Q:  My doctor suggests I go on estrogel and prometrium for my menopause symptoms. I am 48, active and otherwise healthy. My friends and co-workers have made me afraid to heed his advise , they have horror stories about it's use, saying it does more harm than good . The symptoms are getting the best of me but I  worry about making the healthiest choice .  Seems to me messing with hormones is a really big deal. Your thoughts?

A:  Remember that you were making higher doses of these same hormones ever since you were a teenager and so the correct hormones are not the enemy.  In addition, your friends are not suffering from your symptoms and so it is easy to give advice that won’t affect them at all.  I have thousands of women on safe effective hormones and they end up feeling a lot better than their friends.  I agree with your physician that Estrogel and Prometrium are bio-identical hormones and an extremely good combination.
